Animal Assisted Interventions

Tal y Sarn Farm offers a personalised approach to improving health and wellbeing,  specialising in Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) .

WHAT ARE ANIMAL ASSISTED INTERVENTIONS?
AAI sessions involve various activities with animals, involving playing, creating and caregiving, which aims to help build confidence and problem-solving ability, as well as compassion and empathy. They are becoming an increasingly popular way to help improve wellbeing, particularly with children who may struggle in traditional education settings.

We offer Animal Assisted Play Therapy (AAPT), a type of Animal Assisted Intervention, with our educational sessions being structured to address individual goals, by playing games with our friendly dogs.

THE BENEFITS OF ANIMAL ASSISTED INTERVENTIONS
Studies show that AAI can have various benefits, including reducing stress, depression and anxiety. Other benefits include an increase in confidence and social skills, as well as improvements in behavioural problems and emotional wellbeing.

AAI AND AUTISM
Those with autism can experience heightened stress during social contact, which can cause information overload and problems learning. Therefore, non-stressful learning contexts, such as those in AAI, can help. Animals’ non-judgement quality gives a sense of acceptance, which may reduce ‘camouflaging/masking’, and forming an affectionate  bond with an animal can help develop happy relationships with people.
